Extend Your Macs Life

I Need A New Mac, What Do I Do?

Keep, Kick to the Curb, Update, or Buy A New Model....decisions....decisions?

If your Mac isn't too long in the tooth and you think you could get maybe a few more years out of it then why not think about extending it's life by updating it rather than upgrading it. In the current climate we all want to see our money stretch a little further and none more so when it comes to the life of our Macs. After all they are one of our more larger purchases. If you're not in the position to purchase a Mac right now but need a machine with a bit more umph, upgrading a 2-3 year old machine is a good alternative to the cost of purchasing a new Macintosh. Adding more ram/memory or a larger hard disk to your machine are things you can do can which can transform your Macs speed and ability.

Welcome to New Bern Mac User Group

The New Bern Mac Users Group provides a forum for owners and fans of Mac computers and other Apple products living in eastern North Carolina.

Meeting are held monthly at Craven Community College in New Bern. These feature demonstrations and discussions of new software applications, hardware and instructional media. Members can also bring their problems or issues to the meeting and ask questions or get help. There are no dues or admission fees.

The New Bern Mac Users Group started up in the mid-1990s by members of the NB Computer Users Group, our PC opposite number. Among the founders were John Melchior, Chuck Ehrenfried and Jack Richardson, all of whom are still active in the group, and John Waybright. There weren’t many Mac users in the area then, but a few hardy souls had Mac IIs, Quadras and LCs.

The group has managed to survive all these years without elected officers, bylaws, dues or a treasury. John, Chuck and Jack have all taken a turn at planning and organizing meetings. Meetings currently are arranged by Jim Shaw, who also writes a monthly newsletter.

There are more than 100 names on NBMUG’s rolls, and about 40 members attend meetings more or less regularly. With the advent of the Intel Macintosh the group continues to grow with new members attending each meeting.
